The Need of Energy against Global Climate Change
Global climate change nowadays is worldwide challenge
for all nations in the world. Massive efforts have been conducted to cope with
the problem yet the global temperature is still rocketing ceaselessly. One of
the ventures is led by United Nations, Intergovernmental
co-operations, by gathering 170 governments in France to cut greenhouse gas
emissions.
However, holding only 20C global
temperature by 2020 is not an easy task. As the government attempt to press the
raising temperature, it also means shutting down or changing the way to produce
the energy. This is mainly because the main resources is still emphasis on
fossil, unrenewable energy. To provide large amount of energy, the government
absolutely will build many coal-fired plants to meet the demand of the energy.
Consequently, the number of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere will also climb up
as result of the coal combustion.
Many developing countries struggle to fulfil the need
of energy in every sector; particularly industrial sector. Industry consumes
enormous number of energy, like electricity, to run their business. Moreover,
some of remote islands in developing countries do not have access to
electricity for their daily life. To cope with that problem, the government
still relies on the coal-fired plants to yield the energy. However, it creates
adversely effects and contributes to global climate change.
As developing country, Indonesia attempts to give
prosperity to all their inhabitants not only in urban area but also in isolated
area. In fact, the spread of this notion merely reaches the people nearby the
centre of government areas; such as capital city and its surroundings. This is
mainly because Indonesia is archipelago country which makes the government
having tremendous challenge to manage and monitor the needs of each territory. In
terms of providing energy, Indonesia government still utilizes unrenewable
energy source – oil and fossil (minerals) – to cover the electricity supply to
the nation. As a result, Indonesia is still contributing to the increasing of
global temperature at about three-quarters of new coal-fired power plants along
with the other countries like China, India and Vietnam.
Realize it or not, when the governments make an
effort to supply the energy to their inhabitants, that also spell disaster to
our earth. Thus, using renewable and sustainable energy could be the best solutions.
But, the question is how should the government endorse
that solution?
